Programme Overview

  • The Intermediate Emergency First Aid Responder programme builds on basic first aid skills to equip learners with enhanced emergency care capabilities.

  • This training enables participants to manage a wider range of workplace and community emergencies with confidence, ensuring a higher level of preparedness until professional medical help is available.

Purpose of the Programme

This programme is designed to:

  • Develop intermediate-level first aid knowledge and practical response skills.
  • Teach learners to stabilise casualties with more complex injuries or conditions.
  • Promote compliance with Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) legislation.
  • Improve emergency response times and reduce the severity of injuries in the workplace.

Participants will gain competency in:

  • Advanced Scene Safety & Assessment – Managing multiple casualties and prioritising care.
  • Secondary Survey – Conducting thorough casualty assessments.
  • CPR & AED Use – Adult, child, and infant resuscitation techniques.
  • Choking & Airway Management – Advanced airway clearing methods.
  • Fractures, Sprains & Spinal Injuries – Immobilisation and safe handling.
  • Medical Emergencies – Recognising and responding to strokes, seizures, asthma, and diabetic incidents.
  • Environmental Emergencies – Treating burns, heat stroke, hypothermia, and poisoning.
  • Emergency Communication – Coordinating with emergency services effectively.

  • Upon successful completion, learners will receive a Statement of Results and a Skills Programme Certificate under the QCTO.

Entry Requirements

  • Communication and Mathematical Literacy at NQF Level 2 or equivalent.
